Rotary Leaders Promote Alzheimer’s Awareness at Tri-State Conference

The Tri-State Rotary District Conference, held from May 3-5, 2024, at the Southbridge Conference Center in Southbridge, MA, was a gathering of Rotarians from Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island focused on networking, learning, and service. Among the highlights of the conference was the impactful presence of Dave Clifton and Angela Ponte, key representatives of the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Rotary Action Group (ADRAG).

Dave Clifton, District Chair and Original Founder of ADRAG, along with Angela Ponte, District Governor of Rotary District 7950 and Secretary of ADRAG, played an instrumental role in raising awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia during the conference. They attended the House of Friendship, a dedicated space for Rotarians to share information about various initiatives and projects. Clifton and Ponte used this opportunity to engage with attendees, providing them with valuable insights into the challenges posed by Alzheimer’s and dementia and the efforts being made to combat these diseases.

Their presence at the House of Friendship allowed them to connect with Rotarians from different districts, sharing information on the latest research, support for affected families, and community projects aligned with Rotary International’s Disease Prevention and Treatment Area of Focus. Clifton and Ponte emphasized the importance of collective action and collaboration in addressing the growing “silver tsunami” of elderly individuals affected by Alzheimer’s.

Angela Ponte’s extensive experience in Rotary leadership and her passionate advocacy for ADRAG’s mission were evident as she interacted with conference attendees. She highlighted the importance of community involvement and the significant role Rotary clubs can play in supporting Alzheimer’s research and caregiving initiatives.

Clifton focused on ADRAG’s strategic partnerships with national and international organizations, emphasizing collaborative efforts to advance research, provide patient care, and support caregivers. He encouraged Rotarians to join ADRAG and participate in its various initiatives, stressing that collective action can lead to significant progress in addressing Alzheimer’s and dementia.

The Tri-State Rotary District Conference successfully brought attention to the pressing issue of Alzheimer’s and dementia, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Dave Clifton and Angela Ponte. Their engagement with attendees at the House of Friendship not only educated and inspired participants but also strengthened the commitment of Rotary clubs across the region to support this critical cause.
