Turning the Tide: Rotary’s Role in the Fight Against Alzheimer’s

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Advocates,

This month, as Rotary focuses on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, we are reminded that access to basic human needs is not just a matter of survival—it is a matter of dignity. The same can be said about our fight against Alzheimer’s and dementia. These diseases rob individuals of their memories, independence, and, in many cases, their ability to care for themselves. As Rotarians, we know that dignity and quality of life are at the heart of service, and that includes ensuring people living with dementia and their caregivers have the resources and support they need.

Alzheimer’s doesn’t just affect individuals—it affects families, communities, and healthcare systems. The growing number of cases, combined with a shortage of dementia care specialists, is creating a crisis that cannot be ignored. As ADRAG members, we are on the frontlines of this battle, advocating for better care, supporting research, and ensuring that no one faces this journey alone.

This month, I challenge each of us to think about how we can apply Rotary’s commitment to service above self to the fight against Alzheimer’s. Just as clean water and proper sanitation are essential to a healthy life, so is access to compassionate, quality care for those facing cognitive decline. Whether it’s through supporting caregivers, raising awareness in your local clubs, or fundraising for research, your efforts make a difference.

Together, we can create a future where Alzheimer’s no longer steals the dignity of our loved ones. Thank you for all that you do in this fight.

In service,
