More than 600 people turned out for Sioux Falls’ Walk to End Alzheimer’s on 26 September, according to the Alzheimer’s Association of South Dakota. Dakota News Now reported that donations had exceeded $295,000 when its coverage was published that evening.

The two-mile route began at Levitt at the Falls. Participants continued despite rain, gathering in support of Alzheimer’s research and services for people living with the disease and their families.

The association’s Leslie Morrow told the broadcaster that the walkers included people currently caring for loved ones and people who had experienced a bereavement. Organizers said some participants had spent much of the year fundraising, making the walk a gathering point for work already underway.

The Sioux Falls event was one of several South Dakota walks. Rapid City had hosted a walk the previous weekend, while Aberdeen’s event was scheduled for 3 October. The reported Sioux Falls fundraising figure was a snapshot at publication, rather than a final audited total.
